The Vibe in Venice

Venice, California is best known for its canals and beaches. But it also has a somewhat eclectic, bohemian neighborhood feeling, as well as a colorful boardwalk. Since the late 1990s, downtown Venice (along Abbot Kinney Blvd.) has been especially popular, with many bars, nightclubs, art galleries, and edgy apparel shops sprouting up. Abbot Kinney has got a great vibe to it, with it older brick buildings, artsy, Art Deco storefronts and hyper-modern glass structures that have been built in the last 15 years.

Similar to Santa Monica, you’ll find the gay and lesbian community to be extremely integrated in Venice. A large segment of the Venice community is involved in the Arts, and as a result, tends to be very progressive. It is one of the most diverse communities in the West Los Angeles area.

Venice is bordered on the north by the Santa Monica, on the east by Mar Vista, on the west by the city Pacific Ocean, and on the south by Marina del Rey.

Why live in Venice

Venice is as ‘cool’ and ‘hip’ as it gets in Los Angeles. If you want to feel that you can be out in all aspects of your life, then you would feel comfortable living in Venice. The lifestyle is totally laid back.

Venice is about a 10 minute drive to Culver City, 30 minute drive to West Hollywood, and 10 minute drive to Santa Monica.

Venice is made up mostly of small single family homes with a smattering of condominiums. If you enjoy Modern architecture, you’ll appreciate how Venice is evolving as a community.

Real Estate Reality in Venice

Venice property values have soared in the past several years due to its’ appeal as a small town artistic beach community within a big city. The city is evolving very quickly from its old reputation as a gang-ridden community into a rich, vibrant, creative town. Property values are as high as $1,000/square foot.

My prediction is that real estate values will remain strong in Venice due its proximity to the ocean, ideal climate, its reputation as the ‘cool’ place to live, and its overall desirability as a great Westside lifestyle.
