West Hollywood is considered to be the Gay capitol of Southern California. West Hollywood has been an incorporated city in 1984. While the total residential population is just over 37,000, the nighttime and weekend population swells to between 80,000 and 100,000, with a high of up to 500,000 during major events such as the Halloween Party or the Gay & Lesbian Pride Parade, West Hollywood is more lovingly referred to as WeHo or BoysTown. It is truly a gay and lesbian village. Charming and vibrant.
West Hollywood is bordered on the north by the Santa Monica Mountains, on the east by Hollywood, on the west by the city of Beverly Hills and on the south by the Fairfax and Beverly Center Districts.
Santa Monica Blvd is one long gay strip of bars, restaurants, shops The downtown area is now chock full of great restaurants, a Trader Joe’s, a multi-screen stadium-style movie theater, and great shops and art galleries.
